Justin M. Head, DO is a fellowship trained surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstruction, including total and partial knee replacement, total hip replacement with the direct superior approach, and revision hip and knee replacement. He utilizes minimally invasive approaches, muscle-sparing techniques, and the latest technology like 3D imaging and robotic-assisted surgery.
Dr. Head was born and raised in Middle Tennessee. He attended Middle Tennessee State University, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Molecular Cell Biology, Summa Cum Laude. He and his wife were married just prior to his attending Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he graduated in the top 10 of his class. He went on to complete an orthopedic surgery internship and residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Following residency, he completed two simultaneous fellowships: Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction at the Hedley Orthopedic Institute and Orthopedic Surgery Fellow at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Head has performed over 1,000 robotic-assisted partial and total joint surgeries and helped return quality of life to and relieve pain for many patients. Dr Head’s approach to joint replacement is minimally invasive and muscle-sparing, which helps decrease postoperative pain and increase return of function. Dr. Head is proud to have helped bring this unique and revolutionary technology to the Central Savannah River Area.
Dr. Head enjoys spending time outdoors with his family. He is active in physical fitness and enjoys cooking and eating! He has an extensive knowledge of popular film, classic rock, and plays the drums.

I had gone to another orthopedic to start with. He didn't explain anything. Basically gave me a diagnosis and told me to lose weight before he'd even consider surgery. I left in tears. Dr. Head was recommended by a family member.so when it was time for my follow up, I scheduled an appointment with Dr Head. Oh what a difference. Dr head went into detail everything on the X-rays and only made the comment for every pound list is like 5 pounds of pressure off my knees. I was so very pleased with Dr Head. No old-school methods requiring longer rehab and road to functionality. I met Dr Head about 4 years ago with a knee that was bone to bone with holes in my bones. He mentioned a new surgery procedure and asked if I would consider it. Update: It is now 7 weeks since my knee replacement surgery. I comfortably walk without assistance no cane, no walker. Started back working out again 3 weeks ago. No issues doing yard work etc. I do try to keep of my knee but everything else is amazingly good. Dr Head is the best! If I could put into words the pain I was in over the past 5 or 6 years. Or how it good it feels to sleep through the night.Also the staff there is exceptional! This is the only Doctors office where with in 15 minutes of your appointment time you are seeing your Doctor. Had total knee replacement surgery January 2023. Relocated to N. Augusta in April. Was having excruciating pain. Dr Head agreed to take me as a new patient. Dr Head recommended physical therapy for my knee, hip and back. After a few weeks of PT, Dr Head recommended an injection for my hip. He felt this would help. After the injection and continued PT I am feeling so much better. Hip replacement. Had not walked for YEARS without aid. Worn out hip was not able to take weight. Two weeks out from surgery and I can WALK unaided. Not fast. Still gimpy. But the hip works and Dr Head fixed it. I will get better and better untill I have a full life involving walking and the things I love and need to do. Step 1: I plan on firing my husband from being my caregiver ASAP. Step 2: Fire husband from housekeeping, cooking, and tending to animals. Step 3: Start making money to contribute to income. Dr. Justin Head is truly an outstanding surgeon. His level of expertise is top notch. My 83 year old mother was up and walking with the support of a walker fairly quickly, from a hip perspective all went incredibly well with minimal pain. Dr. Head performed surgery on both of my knees. He used the Mako Robotic Arm during the procedure. Dr. Head takes care of his patients and listens to problems and issues post surgery. He has a great staff that works with him in the office as well as a great surgical team. Seen and talked to Dr. Head twice now about getting knee replacement, & so far very pleased with his attitude. He is not arrogant toward me, like some patient states. Dr. Head was very professional. As a new patient, he answered my questions and reviewed my x-rays. He offered me several options, and allowed me to invite my husband into the examining room for his advice. He gave me a steroid shot in my knee with no pain only a cold, icy blast.
